Rochester Cathedral Hidden Treasures – Fresh Expressions
This project grew out of our involvement as Inspecting Architect of the Cathedral from 2000 to 2015, with the primary aims of improving the access for people with disabilities to significant parts of the cathedral, including the Crypt, Cloister Garth and Library, making better, more appropriate use of space and providing interpretation to these areas in the form of permanent and temporary exhibitions.
The design was developed in conjunction with an Exhibition Designer and a large multi-disciplinary team and included extensive archaeological and engineering works under a new stone floor in the crypt, Reroofing and new fit out of the library and vestry, extensive landscape improvements and new M&E services. The project was supported with a significant grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
