Leeds castle repairs Commended in Natural Stone awards 2020

Carden and Godfrey’s recent project for stonework repairs at Leeds castle has been commended in the repair and restoration category of the Natural Stone awards 2020.
The below text is adapted from the winner’s catalogue:

“Adapting a disciplined and well-established philosophical approach to conservation and restoration work, this latest phase involved £366,000 of masonry repairs made to the south-central elevations.

The works included replacement of stones using Kentish Ragstone, lime shelter coating, and the repointing of the walls with lime mortar. There was also a redecoration on the metalwork window glazing, of which “Richemont Bleu” stone was used for the restoration of the detailed window masonry.

The judges were impressed with how the team has returned an architectural freshness to the structure without being overpowering, while at the same time visually blending effectively with adjacent facades.”
