Ian Angus Dip Arch RIBA AABC

Ian has over 30 years of experience as an architect at Carden & Godfrey on commissions ranging from alterations and adaptations to private individual houses, repairs, inspections, conservation and extension to many historic churches, to a long association with Worcester College, Oxford. He is appointed as architect to the National Trust for three estates in the Thames and Solent Region and runs a framework appointment to Historic Royal Palaces, working at the Tower of London. Ian studied at Thames Polytechnic School of Architecture and completed the SPAB Lethaby Scholarship in 1981 and continues active involvement with the SPAB as Chair of the Education Committee. He became a Director of Carden & Godfrey in 1989.

Andy Burrell BSc (Hons) BArch (Wales) RIBA AABC

Andy joined Carden & Godfrey in 1996 and has been involved in inspections, design and running numerous projects involving conservation, repairs, alterations and extensions to listed and historic buildings ever since. Andy has extensive experience of public sector work including managing Framework Agreements with the Parliamentary Estates Directorate, for English Heritage including at Dover Castle and Osborne House, for Historic Royal Palaces at the Tower of London and Kensington Palace and for the City of London. Private sector work includes numerous church projects and community buildings. Andy studied at the University of Wales in Cardiff, qualified as an architect in 1997, became a director of Carden & Godfrey in 2011 and is an Architect Accredited in Building Conservation.

Richard Andrews MA Dip Arch FSA RIBA

Richard has over 40 years of experience as an Architect with Carden & Godfrey working on historic churches, schools, former stately homes and other buildings. He is appointed Architect to 35 churches, mostly along the Sussex coast and has recently completed a large extension and refurbishment project to 18th century Armoury House in central London. His interest in archaeology has been combined with architecture in the repairs and conservation of ruins at Lewes Priory as well as in Albania and Turkey. Richard graduated from Cambridge University School of Architecture in 1975 and joined Carden & Godfrey in 1976, becoming a Director in 1984. Richard regularly provides conservation advice to English Heritage and developers, has prepared several Conservation Management Plans and is also a registered CDM Co-ordinator.

Olga Vladic-Weal BArch PG Dip RIBA

Associate Architect
Olga joined Carden & Godfrey in 2004 and specialises in contemporary interventions within sensitive, historic environments. Olga’s work ranges from careful repairs and refurbishments to significant alterations, and new additions to historic buildings. She is passionate about fully understanding each building, the history and the impact an intervention would have on the overall appearance, historic fabric and surroundings of the buildings she is entrusted to work with.

John Caselton BArch (Hons) BA (Hons)

John joined Carden & Godfrey in 2007 and approaches designs to strive and not yield until they are as valuable as the work of the craftsmen who have gone before us. John’s interests in historic buildings lies in how these buildings learn; how they seek to adapt and change over time.

James Campen BA (Hons) Dip Arch

James studied at the University of Portsmouth and The Bartlett, qualifying as an architect in 2011. He joined Carden & Godfrey in 2009 and has worked on numerous conservation and new build projects across London and the south east.

Michael Swords B.Arch Msc, PgDip, PgC

Michael Joined Carden & Godfrey in 2019 and completed his part 3 studies in 2020. Michael gained a BArch degree in DIT, Dublin in 2014 before pursuing his interest in Craft and Conservation in Barcelona. He undertook additional post-graduate training, including a MSc in the “Restoration of Architectural monuments” at the UPC, and a PgC “Rehabilitar desde la estructura” at the Escola Sert. Michael enjoys writing about Architecture, and twice won the “Berkeley travel fellowship” for his writings.

Natalie Herson BA (Hons) MSc

Office Manager
Natalie joined Carden & Godfrey in 2018 and is responsible for the management of the office, finance, HR and that everything runs smoothly for the team and Clients.
