Caring for Kenwood – Kenwood House, Hampstead, London – External Repairs and Internal Reinterpretation

Repairs and redecoration to the external walls and major roof repairs to the Grade 1 Listed house and service wings of this Important mid-18th Century Mansion are essential to keep the building wind and weathertight and to protect the valuable collection of art inside which includes works by many great artists, including Rembrandt, Vermeer, Turner, Reynolds, Gainsborough, and Constable.

Construction costs: Phase 1 (Service Wing) £1.2m; Phase 2 (Main House) £2.4m.
Part funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Works include stripping the roof coverings, inspecting, and repairing timbers, improving lead gutter arrangements, new roof finishes, repointing, render repairs and external redecoration as well as introduction of a passenger lift into the building to improve the accessibility and internal repairs and re-presentation of some of the principal internal spaces.
