A major internal reordering project to create a new entrance re-orientating this west London church towards Parsons Green, opening it up to the heart of the community.
A church office was created on a mezzanine over the new reception area, with an adjacent infill extension providing new toilet and office facilities. A new fully fitted commercial kitchen was housed in the south aisle, hidden within a new cube pod structure. The pod’s timber cladding was designed to echo the new floor and pick up reds found elsewhere within the church, to soften and break down its mass whilst giving the structure its own distinct personality, forming the focal point for post service gatherings once the hidden hatches are thrown open.
The project also provided a new stage, with storage integrated below and a new timber floor throughout the main space. Extensive use of LCD switchable glass allowed areas to be partitioned off, either visibility or privately, providing greater flexibility in the use of spaces. A new theatrical lighting scheme completed the scheme, allowing the spaces to be used for everyday gatherings or transforming the space for events and performances.
